Tradovate gives you multiple ways to enter and exit trades across desktop, web, and mobile devices. This guide will walk you through the basic process of opening and closing positions.
Placing a Trade on Desktop or Web
Step 1: Log In
Open Tradovate and log in to your account.
Step 2: Open a Trading Window
Navigate to either:
Chart
DOM (Depth of Market)
Step 3: Select an Instrument
Choose the market you want to trade, such as:
MNQ
ES
CL
NQ
Other available futures contracts
Step 4: Configure Your Order
Choose:
Buy or Sell
Order Type:
Market
Limit
Stop Limit
MIT (Market If Touched)
Step 5: Set Your Parameters
Enter your desired:
Quantity (contracts)
Entry price (if applicable)
Stop Loss (optional)
Take Profit (optional)
Step 6: Submit Your Order
Click Place Order or Submit to send the order to the market.
Your position will become active once the order is filled.
Closing a Trade on Desktop or Web
Method 1: Positions Tab
Open the Positions panel.
Locate the position you want to close.
Click Close.
Confirm whether you want to exit partially or fully.
Method 2: Chart or DOM
Locate the active position on your chart or DOM.
Right-click the position.
Select Close Position.
Method 3: DOM Quick Exit
If you’re using the DOM, you can use the built-in Close button for a faster exit.
Placing a Trade on the Tradovate Mobile App
Step 1: Open the App
Launch the Tradovate mobile application and sign in.
Step 2: Access the Trading Screen
Tap the Menu (☰) icon and select Trade.
Step 3: Select Your Instrument
Choose the futures contract you wish to trade.
Step 4: Configure Your Order
Set:
Buy or Sell
Order Type
Quantity
Any additional trading parameters
Step 5: Submit the Order
Tap Send to place the order.
Alternative Method: Trading Through the Markets Section
Open the Menu (☰).
Select Markets.
Choose your preferred instrument.
Tap Trade.
Configure your order details.
Tap Send to place the trade.
Closing a Trade on the Mobile App
Step 1: Open Markets
Tap the Menu (☰) and select Markets.
Step 2: View Open Positions
Navigate to the My Positions section.
Step 3: Exit Your Position
Tap CANCEL ALL & EXIT ALL to close all active positions and cancel any pending orders.

Before submitting any trade, always double-check:
Instrument selected
Order direction (Buy or Sell)
Number of contracts
Stop Loss and Take Profit levels
