Understanding Risk Settings in Tradovate

Tradovate includes built-in Risk Settings that allow traders to create automatic account restrictions based on profit or loss thresholds.

These settings can automatically stop trading activity when predefined limits are reached, helping traders manage risk and protect their accounts.

However, if you are trading an AquaFutures Challenge or Funded Account, these settings are already configured by our system and should not be modified.

What Are Risk Settings?

Risk Settings are account-level controls that can automatically restrict trading when certain conditions are met.

Examples include:

  • Daily Loss Limits

  • Weekly Loss Limits

  • Daily Profit Targets

  • Weekly Profit Targets

Once a configured limit is reached, Tradovate can automatically prevent additional trading activity until the next eligible session.

What Happens When a Risk Limit Is Triggered?

If a configured risk threshold is reached:

  • Open positions may be closed automatically.

  • Pending orders may be canceled.

  • New positions may be restricted.

  • Trading may remain disabled until the next trading session.

These protections are designed to help manage account risk and prevent additional losses after a predefined threshold has been reached.

How to Access Risk Settings

Step 1: Log In to Tradovate

Open Tradovate and sign in to your account.

Step 2: Open Application Settings

Locate the settings menu in the upper-right corner of the platform.

Step 3: Open Risk Settings

Select Risk Settings from the available options.

You will then see the available risk management controls for your account.

Available Risk Setting Options

Depending on your account configuration, Tradovate may display the following settings:

Daily Loss Limit

Stops trading activity once the specified daily loss amount is reached.

Weekly Loss Limit

Stops trading activity once the specified weekly loss amount is reached.

Daily Profit Trigger

Can lock trading once a specific daily profit amount has been achieved.

Weekly Profit Trigger

Can lock trading once a specific weekly profit target has been achieved.

Lock Risk Settings Feature

Tradovate also offers a feature called Lock Risk Settings.

When enabled:

  • Risk settings cannot be modified after a trigger is activated.

  • The lock remains active until the trading session resets.

  • The settings cannot be manually unlocked during the active session.

Important

Once a locked risk setting has been triggered, neither Tradovate nor AquaFutures can remove the lock before the next session begins.

For this reason, traders should use this feature with caution.

Modifying Risk Settings

If you are using a personal Tradovate account, you can typically:

  1. Enable or disable individual risk controls.

  2. Enter your preferred values.

  3. Save the changes.

Always double-check your settings before saving to ensure the values match your intended risk management plan.

Important Notice for AquaFutures Traders

Do Not Modify Your Risk Settings

For all AquaFutures Challenge and Funded Accounts, risk parameters are already configured by our system.

These settings are applied automatically during account setup to ensure proper account functionality and rule enforcement.

Manually changing these settings can lead to issues such as:

  • Trading restrictions

  • Liquidation errors

  • Incorrect risk calculations

  • Unexpected account pauses

  • Order rejection issues

Because the account is already configured correctly, no manual adjustments are required.

What Should I Do If I Changed My Risk Settings?

If you have modified any Risk Settings on your AquaFutures account and begin experiencing trading issues, please contact the AquaFutures Support Team immediately.

Providing screenshots of your current settings may help speed up the review process.

Best Practice

For AquaFutures accounts:

✓ Leave all Risk Settings unchanged.

✓ Allow the platform’s preconfigured settings to manage account risk.

✓ Contact support before making any risk-related modifications.

Following these guidelines helps ensure your account operates correctly and avoids unnecessary trading interruptions.

Need Assistance?

If you have questions regarding account risk settings or believe your account is behaving unexpectedly, please contact the AquaFutures Support Team for assistance.

This version is cleaner than the FundedNext article because it focuses first on explaining what Risk Settings actually do, then clearly separates the important AquaFutures warning that traders should not modify them.
